The Lantern Parade is a yearly tradition at Newtowne where we celebrate the new season through light, music, and an emphasis on community.
Around the shift from Daylight Savings time, the Newtowne community comes together for a pizza and potluck dinner and then parades to the nearby Cambridge Common. Accompanied by family and faculty musicians, children and families are encouraged to sing, shake, dance, or simply shine their light as evening falls
These events are an opportunity to pause at drop off and visit the classroom with your child to learn more about what your class has been up to in the first part of the school year. Families will be able to engage in provocations together with their children and be introduced to the students’ portfolios, which will continue to grow throughout the year.
One winter evening each year, Newtowne is lit up to welcome families and children and celebrate the curriculum happening across the school. Families can enjoy a pizza and potluck dinner, and visit all parts of the school for playful provocations and documentation.
Newtowne’s Annual Spring Fair is a longstanding favorite community tradition! It’s an event that is free to attend for all, bringing together current families, alumni, neighbors, and friends.
The day begins with a special ‘Fun Run’ race at Cambridge Common for Newtowne students and families, followed by an afternoon fair at the Newtowne playground filled with a bouncy house, craft activities, petting zoo, food, live music, and plenty of opportunities to gather and play together.
