Classrooms
Newtowne School offers a variety of programming options for approximately 60 students across four age-based classrooms. While classroom age cutoffs may vary slightly from year to year, the approximate age ranges at the start of the school year might be:
Orange Sea Stars: 22 months – 2 years, 9 months
(3-day/week or 5-day/week options)
Purple Fish: 2 years, 9 months – 3 years, 8 months
(5-day/week only)
Blue Otters: 3 years, 3 months – 4 years, 3 months
(5-day/week only)
Green Dragonflies: 4 years – 5 years
(5-day/week only)
*Please note: the 3-day/week option is available only in the toddler classroom (Orange Sea Stars).
School Calendar
School Year Programming (8:00 – 3:30)
Core Program (8:30-12:30)
In our Core Program, students participate in a mix of Reggio Emilia–inspired indoor and outdoor experiences, as well as enrichment activities. Children also enjoy snack and lunch at school with their peers each day.
Cambridge Preschool Program (8:00-2:30)
Newtowne is proud to partner with the Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP). Students enrolled in CPP participate in the same core programming as all Newtowne students, with the option to arrive as early as 8:00 AM and stay until 2:30 PM, including rest time in the afternoon.
In addition to Core Programming, families may choose to enroll in some or all of the following wraparound care options.
Wraparound Care Options
EARLY DROP PROGRAM (8:00-8:30)
Early Drop is a mixed-age program in which children from all four classrooms play together (all four classes combined) that takes place on the playground. Students can enroll in Early Drop for some or all of the days they attend the Core Program.
AFTERNOON PROGRAM (12:30-3:30)
Afternoon Program includes rest time, snack time, and a mix of indoor, outdoor, and enrichment activities. Students can enroll in the Afternoon Program for some or all of the days they attend the Core Program.
CPP EXTENSION PROGRAM (2:30-3:30)
The CPP Extension program extends the day for students who attend the Cambridge Preschool program so they may enjoy additional Reggio-inspired programming after rest and snack time. There is only a 5-day/week option for the CPP Extension program.
