At Newtowne, we are proud to be a cooperative preschool built on partnership among teachers, children, and families. We believe that this shared investment in education and community is one of the things that makes Newtowne unique and special.

We know families balance many responsibilities, and we strive to make participation flexible, feasible, and rewarding. When families communicate their needs, we work together to find supportive and manageable ways for everyone to contribute to the cooperative community.

Our cooperative model is designed to help families successfully complete their roles and feel proud of their collective contributions to the school.

Each Newtowne family commits to supporting the cooperative through:

  • Cooperative Jobs: Each family takes on one or two cooperative jobs during the school year that is matched to their talents and availability

  • Work Days: Families participate twice annually in a 3-hour family work day, usually held on a weekend morning or weekday evening

  • Event Support: Families take a one- or two-hour shift at a community event like the annual Spring Fair

Beyond these shared commitments, many families choose to participate in additional ways that help build the strong sense of connection and community at Newtowne:
